ISO 14001 Certification of Ev-K2-CNR Pyramid
and Environmental Management System in Sagarmatha Park

ISO 14001 Certification of Ev-K2-CNR Pyramid

The proposal aims to design, introduce and certify an Environmental Management System in EV-K2-CNR Lab, following ISO 14001 standard. A secondary goal is the diffusion on environmental awareness counting on the collaboration of local authorities and university.

Environmental Management System in Sagarmatha Park

The proposal aims to verify the feasibility of designing, implementing and maintaining an Environmental Management System (EMS) in Sagarmatha Park. The ISO 14001 standard will be taken as a landmark, as will similar projects underway in Italy and in other countries. A two year period is considered, in order to encourage the involvement of local bodies, to ensure a full understanding and sharing of the initiative, and to strengthen relations between those that will be working together on the project. In addition to purely "technical" aspects, particular attention will be devoted to the social and cultural side of this operation, the outcome of which will be disseminated by means of a structured communication campaign.

K2 2004 - 50 YEARS ON

The primary objective of this project coordinated by Pr. Riccardo Beltramo is to develop an Environmental Management System (EMS) for the "K2 2004 - 50 years on" expedition that want to celebrate the anniversary of the first italian ascent of K2 carried out on July 31, 1954 by Achille Compagnoni, Lino Lacedelli and their colleagues, directed by Pr. Ardito Desio. The EMS in question will cover the entire life cycle of the k2 expedition (planning, preparation, execution and conclusion).
In a second time the requirements for materials, equipment, kit, tools and anything needed for the activities that will be carried out during the course of the expedition are examined in detail. Therefore environmental compatibility could contribute to the criteria used to select suppliers and materials.
The final proposal aims to generalise the EMS in order to create a model that can be applied to future alpine expeditions.
